Residents of Fairfield County need to make $3,814 every month to maintain a modest standard of living, making it the most expensive place to live in Connecticut.

That was one of the data points in a new analysis from 24/7 Wall St., which examined the county in each state that is the most expensive to live in. The Economic Policy Institute’s Family Budget Calculator was used to determine the local cost of living, which includes housing, food, health care, transportation and other necessities.

The monthly housing cost in Fairfield County, the biggest expense, was $1,052. And the median household income in the region stood at $89,773, while the 2018 jobless rate there was 4 percent.

The 24/7 Wall St. analysis ranked counties by estimating the cost of living for a single adult resident to have a modest quality of life.

Those counties in each state that ranked the most expensive to live in tended to have strong economies, low jobless rates and higher household incomes, according to the study.
