Eversource Energy issued the following announcement on Dec. 21.

Working closely with community leaders and tree wardens throughout Connecticut, Eversource’s team of licensed arborists is trimming trees that threaten electric reliability in towns and cities around the state. In Glastonbury, the company is investing approximately $125,000 in tree work to prune along 50 miles of overhead electric lines starting in early January.

“While we all love our trees, they can have a devastating effect on the electric system, especially during a storm,” said Eversource Manager of Vegetation Management in Connecticut Alan Carey. “We’re always working to serve our customers better and consistent tree trimming helps to improve day-to-day reliability during all types of weather. As a result, we continue to see fewer power outages where this work has been done.”

Tree work in Glastonbury is scheduled to begin the week of January 7 and is being done by Asplundh Tree Expert Co. Work is expected to be complete by the end of March. Asplundh representatives working on behalf of Eversource will be going door to door to distribute information and collect permission slips before proceeding with the work. They will be carrying Eversource identification and will never seek to enter a private residence. As a reminder, there is no cost to the property owner for this work.

Work is taking place on the following streets: New London Turnpike; Hebron Avenue; Beechwood, Blueberry, Buttonball, Carter, Cutter, Echo, Farmstead, Ferry, Kimberly, Old Maids, Pease, Sulky and Surrey lanes; Belltown, Cart, Clark Hill, Coach, Coldbrook, Cotton Hollow, Country Club, Dayton, Douglas, Dug, Foote, Founders, Grindle Brook, High Ridge, Hopewell, Matson Hill, Mott Hill, Old Trail, Old Village, Olde Stage, Ripley, Robin, Salmon Brook, Stockade, Stratton, Toll Gate, Wagon, and Wassuc roads; Clinton, Concord, High, House, Hubbard, Main, Melrose, Purtill, School, Spring, Sycamore, Thompson, Tryon, Washington, Willeb, Williams and Woodland streets; Carriage, Dean, Hickory and Randolph Drives; Fill Circle and Hopewell Heights.

Eversource has been closely coordinating with Glastonbury Tree Warden Greg Foran and residents with questions can contact him directly at (860) 652-7686 or Eversource Arborist Jenna Turner at (860) 665-6149.

In addition, the company reminds customers that homeowners are responsible for tree maintenance on their own property, including keeping branches away from the lower-voltage service wires connecting their homes and businesses to the main utility lines on the street. Eversource strongly recommends contacting a professional tree service to perform this work. For details on the company’s comprehensive vegetation management program, please visit Eversource.com.
