Eversource Energy issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
More and more people struggle with hunger every day, and it’s the Connecticut Food Bank’s mission to combat that. The Connecticut Food Bank in Wallingford helps provide food to community pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and more across six counties in Connecticut, which in turn, feed hundreds of thousands of people each year.
Nearly 300,000 people in Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, and Windham counties struggle with hunger. To keep up with the need, the Food Bank relies on outside contributions. We’re proud to help with a recent donation that will provide enough meals to feed 12,000 people.
“Every $1 donated provides enough food for two meals for people in the state,” said Connecticut Food Bank Corporate Development Manager Michael Davidow. “Eversource’s support, not only with this donation but their volunteerism efforts year-round, is the kind of help we need to power the Food Bank.”
Our employees also volunteer at the Connecticut Food Bank multiple times a year, helping sort and pack food for those in need. We love to participate in one of the Food Bank’s biggest fundraisers, the Golden Scoop Championship. It’s a race that involves teams made up of volunteers from multiple companies competing to scoop and pack the most pounds of pasta as fast as they can. Our employees have a great time!
“The work we do alongside the Food Bank gives me such a warm feeling inside, especially knowing the food is going back to people and families in need right in our communities,” said our Community Relations Specialist Lynn Vasquez. “We enjoy working together for a better tomorrow with the Food Bank.”
